2014-15 Results Trevor Linden is back. The team's front office is completely rearranged with Linden being hired as team president, Jim Benning becoming the new General Manager and Willie Desjardins in as the new head coach. Jim Benning set about changing the makeup of the team, trading away Ryan Kesler for Luca Sbisa and Nick Bonino, picking up netminder Ryan Miller and winger Radim Vrbata as free agents, and obtaining Linden Vey and Derek Dorsett in separate trades. The Canucks started the season strong with three straight wins and had a solid 18-7-1 record in early December. By playing above average the rest of the season, the Canucks finished with 101 points, good enough for second place in the Pacific Division. During a game on February 22, Ryan Miller was injured early in the second period and was replaced by Eddie Lack. The Canucks went on to win 4-0, making this the second shared shutout in team history. Miller would not return until the last game of the regular season. For the seventh time, the Canucks met the Calgary Flames in first round of the playoffs. The teams split their games in Vancouver, with a brawl near the end of a 4-1 victory in game two. The Flames took both games in Calgary forcing the Canucks to win game five to stave off elimination. The Canucks opened a 3-0 lead in game six before the Flames roared back scoring seven -- including two empty net goals -- to take the series. |
